On 11 July, the APOLO consortium gathered at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden, for an important project meeting dedicated to reviewing progress achieved to date and defining priorities for the next stages of implementation.


The meeting provided an opportunity for partners to present the latest developments in key project components, including advanced ammonia crackers, membrane reactor technologies, fuel cells, and ammonia engine systems. Discussions highlighted significant progress in the development and optimisation of catalysts, membranes, sorbents, and fuel cell integration, all aimed at improving system efficiency and enabling the use of ammonia as a clean maritime fuel.

The consortium also dedicated sessions to safety, regulatory frameworks, and environmental performance. Updates were presented on Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) assessments, techno-economic analyses, and life cycle assessment (LCA) activities, which are essential for evaluating the sustainability and commercial viability of ammonia-powered solutions.
Discussions further addressed the need to contribute to future European and international regulations governing the use of ammonia as a marine fuel.
The meeting also included a tour of Chalmers University of Technology’s research facilities, giving consortium partners the opportunity to explore the university’s state-of-the-art laboratories and test environments.
